Report on Cambridgeshire Schools Athletics Team in the English Schools Championships 2010 The numbers do not lie. Cambridgeshire has had its most successful championships since 2005, finishing 3rd. overall out of 16 teams in the small counties section. 60% of the team reached their track final or finished in the top 8 in their field event. 48% of the team achieved pbs. 6 medals were won 1gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze. The gold was won by Sam Watts (Cambridge Regional college) in the senior boys 200m. His winning time was 21.10 seconds. A new pb for him. Hes now off to The silvers were won by Jake Berney in the junior boys 400m, with a pb time of 51.08 seconds and by Simi Pam (Kings , The three bronze medals were won by Danni Belbin (Kimbolton),Ben Kelk(Long Rd.6FC) and Harry Wells (Kings, Danni, in the intermediate girls 300m hurdles, ran 43.58 seconds. This was a massive improvement of 2 seconds on her pb before coming to the championships. She improved every time she wore a Cambridgeshire vest. Ben , in the senior boys 110m hurdles, ran 14.41 seconds in a very tight finish for the medals. Harry , in the inter boys hammer, threw 59.29m for his bronze. Other results: Morgan Young(Comberton) 4th JB Jav., Max Everest (Hinchingbrooke) 6th. IB 100mH Joel Grenfell 7th. IBL J , Matt Nicholson 7th. IB 1500m Steeplechase Jon Edwards 7th. SB Discus, Hayley Sayer 8th. SG Hammer There was a 5th. place for the IBs relay team , all Peterborough AC athletes. David October qualified for his final of IB 400mH, but could not run due to injury. Ben Snaith, Junior Boys 400m, experienced the highs and lows of competition. After winning his heat and improving his pb by an impressive 0.8 seconds, he did not hold back in the final. With a 100m to go he was in 2nd.place, about 5 metres behind the favourite. Down the home straight he closed in on the leader. Unfortunately the energy ran out about 20m from the line. The crowd gasped as he fell to the track. What a gutsy performance!
